Biography
Toufik Douib is an independent curator and event director. His multidisciplinary practice focuses on the question of Algerian-Maghrebi identities through eclectic contemporary lenses, bridging with Diaspora artists and across the eastern and western creative scene.

After completing a Masters in cultural events management, Toufik curated in 2015 his first exhibition ‘Algerianism’. This followed three distinct collaborations with the P21 Gallery (2017-2018): solo exhibition ‘Dhikr Pictural’, series of short movie screening ‘{Un}Told Stories’ and critically acclaimed visual group show ‘Pop Art from North Africa’, which has also been presented in Spain (2019-2020).

Toufik was commissioned on two occasions by Shubbak Festival, UK’s largest festival dedicated to MENA culture: through ‘Belonging Sideways’ – a multimedia exhibition on the theme of territory and identity and with ‘Soundclash’, a gender-binding experience of politically charged sound and visuals.

He is the coordinator of DIGI-MENA, an online research platform that connects and showcases digital artists from the Middle East, North Africa, and the diaspora. In 2019, he was awarded the Arab Fund for Arts & Culture (AFAC) grant in the Trainings and Regional Events category for his project DIGI-DZ, a series of interactive digital arts workshops presented in Algiers in 2023.
His broader cultural ventures include artistic research collaborations with UK universities (namely, Cambridge and Aberdeen), as well as participation in creative programmes aimed at strengthening cultural practices in the MENA and South Mediterranean regions (such as initiatives by MedCulture and On the Move).

Toufik currently serves as the International Creative Producer for Liverpool Arab Arts Festival (LAAF), since 2024.
